A number of standing committees, composed of some combination of faculty, students and staff, are appointed annually by the chancellor.

In recent years, these have included:

  • Bookstore Advisory Committee
    • The purpose of the Committee is to advise the director of the Bookstore in regard to all suggestions and complaints (pertaining to Campus Stores) received by the Committee.  (Faculty members are appointed by the Faculty Senate Council.)
  • Commencement Committee
    • The purpose of the Committee is to plan the logistics, scheduling and other events of the annual commencement ceremonies and to coordinate activities with other commencement-related groups, such as the Honorary Degree Committee and the Senior Student Association.
  • Discrimination and Harassment Hearing Committee
    • Members of the Committee make themselves available to hear any formal complaints of discrimination, discriminatory harassment or sexual harassment that may be brought against members of the faculty or administration by those other than students.  The Committee will meet only when there is a case to be heard.
  • Holocaust Memorial Lecture Committee
    • The Committee’s purpose is to make recommendations concerning a speaker for the University’s annual lecture, inaugurated in 1989 by then-Chancellor William H. Danforth to commemorate the Holocaust and to address its broader implications for other instances of systematic persecution and mass murder.  The lecture is part of the Assembly Series.  (This Committee typically meets once a year.)
  • Institutional Conflict of Interest Review Committee
    • The ICOI Review Committee should evaluate potential ICOIs and provide written conclusions and recommendations, if any, for ICOI management to the Dean or Officer with the relevant decision-making authority.  A copy should also be sent to the Chancellor and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees
  • Student Conduct Board
    • The Student Conduct Board performs an extremely important role in preserving academic and behavior standards at Washington University.  The Student Conduct Board hears and decides cases of serious student misconduct referred to it by the Student Conduct Administrator or by individual School or College academic integrity panels, and performs other duties as prescribed by the Student Conduct Code (published in Bearings, the student handbook, and elsewhere).  (Faculty members are appointed by the Senate Council; student members are appointed by the Student Union and the Graduate Professional Council.)

Numerous other groups that include faculty are appointed by the chancellor or the executive vice chancellor or any other representative appointed by the chancellor to deal with various issues.
